Telescope Mounts

Types

25 Jan 2004 - There are now many Go To type mounts on the market.  Some of the things that differentiate them are whether or not a worm gear is used and how many bits are in the angle commands.  For example the early Celestron N series and the Baby Nexstar mounts use 16 bit commands for positioning the scope whereas the "i" series (N8i, etc.) and the newer mounts use 32 bit commands.
16 bits per circle = 360 / (2^16) = 19.77 seconds of angle
32 bits per circle = 360 / (2^32) = 0.000302 seconds of angle
The Celestron CGE scopes incluse a "cone" connection and the Meade LX200GPS mounts have corrections aplied to the dec axis as well as the classical PEC.

July 2007 - A quote from a Newtonian ATM Yahoo group:
What are the Three secrets to Successful Imaging?
The Mount,      the Mount,             the Mount.

They also make a smaller mount lightweight precision tracking mount (LPTM) - 400 pound payload, sub arc second
pointing accuracy (after star alignment - probably T-Point software).
