Background

Although this charger looks similar to the PP-8444 Universal Portable Charger, it's much bigger and heavier.  It's also newer, incorporating a microcontroller with up-gradable firmware.  It can be powered from the AC mains anywhere in the world or from a military vehicle with 22 to 28 VDC.

Operation

This is one of two chargers that claim to be able to reset a BB-2590.  (see TM 12359A ch3 pg 3-9 for the BB-390/2590 self discharge device) "If the SOC indicator requires resetting, use the SPC (PP-8498) or VMC (PP-8481) chargers to recharge/reset the BB-2590/U SOC indicator".

When power is applied the charger checks each battery position to see if there's a battery there that needs charging and that's fault free.  If a battery is installed that has one side open, the battery will not be seen by the charger.

When charging two batteries if you place one on the A side and the other on the B side they can both be charged at the same time.
